INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIC GROWING

Saturdays  Apr 17, May 15, Jun 12, July10                                       10.00-16.00                        £65

 

Suitable for those starting to grow veg, fruit or garden plants in a garden, allotment, or on a patio or balcony, or for experienced growers wishing to convert to organic methods. Explores the basics of organic methods and will provide a good overview of practicalities of organic growing on a small scale or as part of a smallholding.
 

 GROWING ORGANIC SOFT FRUIT INCLUDING PRUNING

Saturdays  Apr 10,  May 8                                                           10.00-16.00                               £65

 

A part-theory, part hands-on practical day which includes the basics of pruning and the different soil management for different species. A basic knowledge of organic growing will enhance the value of this course, but is not essential. Some bushes will be partly pruned during the day, emphasizing the requirements of the different species.

Maximum of 5 participants on any one day.

 

WEED AND PEST CONTROL WITHIN THE ORGANIC REGIME

Theory and demonstrations of many different methods.  Will emphasise value of different methods in relation to varying climatic conditions.  A basic knowledge of organic methods will enhance the value of this course but is not essential.

 

 CREATING FERTILE SOIL - THE ORGANIC WAY

This provides basic soil science as practised by organic growers.  It includes some demonstrations.   If you have attended both courses 1 and 3, you will not need to attend this course as you will know it all.

 

PLANNING FOR WINTER CROPS

Saturdays May 29,  June 26                                              10.00-16.00                                             £65

Suitable for those with some experience of growing.  Having fresh, home-grown food Nov-March, depends on completing soil-fertility building procedures and sowing seeds to a strictly timed programme.  The day will be spent in devising a programme for your choice of crops, that will fit in with your lifestyle/job, identifying the most suitable seed varieties, and learning to avoid the pitfalls.

Refreshments will be provided for all courses and a light lunch for all day attendance.

All courses will provide plenty of time for discussion.
